Start/Stop MPH Activation

Hey Guys,

New to the forum, got a Black GTD (manual) on order in 4 weeks!

Just wondering about the start stop. If it has activated (i.e. turned off the engine) if you are going downhill, at what speed does it start again if you don't put the clutch down.

I have a new A Class currently, and with that, you have to go above 8mph before the engine starts again. I find this very useful because on some roads (in traffic) i can crawl a fair distance with no fuel use whatsoever! 

Is it the same on the Golf? if so, at what speed?

I don't know what speed it is but it does fire up again when it starts to roll. The speed does seem quite low.

Dunno what its like in the Merc, but the Golf definitely has no power steering and  so is basically unsteerable while the start/stop is active  - that might by why it cuts in early so that you can't roll too fast out of control.

That's really annoying to hear! With the merc, everything stays on, just not the engine, steering, braking etc. The start stop makes more sense if it allows for some driving while the engine is off! That way you really do see the benefits on fuel.

If you slow right down to 1-2 mph the stop start will kick in even if you're not actually stopped. If you're using auto-hold you have to be pretty gentle or the brake will come on.

Perhaps the clue is in the name... In reality, it is not best practice to free wheel the car in the manner you describe you have no or limited control in those situations... the fuel saving is tiny...
