Nantwich?
« on: 09 September 2014, 10:59 »
Anyone from over that way? I've been offered a job just outside Crewe and we're starting to have a look around and get a feel for prices, areas etc. We've been sent loads of information and like the look of the area around Nantwich but I want to know if this http://www.bridgfords.co.uk/forsaleoffice/Nantwich/398 is a good indication of house prices in the area?
Being Yorkshire through and through it's not an area I know a great deal about so all advice will be very welcome.

Cheers :)

I grew up in Cheshire, so I know the place well.

Nantwich is very sought after, so the high prices reflect that. There are plenty more nice areas to move to round there. And getting about isn't hard. Most towns there are a 20-30 minute drive from each other.

Try looking at Middlewich, Northwich, Sandbach, Tarporley, Winsford (going a bit downhill though), Audley, Kidsgrove and Stoke-on-Trent. All of those places are easily commuted.

Northwich won best place to live in the UK so I am told....! I'm originally from there so can't see it myself. haha.

I would avoid Crewe if it was me. But there are some nice areas on the outskirts.

Hope this helps. If you need any more help, please ask!

I grew up in Sandbach.  Nantwich is cheaper than some of the surrounding areas, such as Sandbach.  Crewe is a dump, do not live there.  Winsford is a dump, do not live there.  Middlewich is a dump, do not live there.

You need to travel there and get a feel for the place.  If you exclude Crewe, which really is the spunky rag of the UK, the rest of Cheshire you'll be looking at around 200k to buy a nice house, in a good area.  Most of the schools are fairly decent but check the Ofsted reports if you're planning to, or have, kids.

Most important thing to remember is that Cheshire has some of the busiest roads around, particularly the M6.  As such, they have a very large and unforgiving police force.  The motorway is littered with cops looking to bag a speeder etc.  Something to bear in mind.

Overall it's a lovely place to live though.  I'm currently residing in Manchester, however my fiancĂ©e and I are looking to move back to Cheshire as soon as possible.  It's a much nicer way of life there, people are friendlier.  I know if sounds stupid, but it still feels like a place where you could leave your door unlocked and you'd be ok, if that makes sense?  It' the best county in the North
