GTD Spec Opinion
« on: 07 September 2014, 20:38 »
Hi

I am 3 weeks away from collecting my New GTD!

I just wondered what people think about the options I picked, the colour etc. I know it comes down to taste etc but guess I need some reassurances about how good these cars really are performance wise etc.

read a lot of reviews from top gear etc but good to get an opinion from someone on here

Gone for 3 door, Carbon grey, 19inch Sandiegos, Dynaudio. Leather seats.

Also does anyone know if VW fill the car up with Diesel as standard?

You might get some diesel but depends on the dealership. Did you test drive a gtd with 19”s on?
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

I think it depends what car your coming from. If your coming from a relatively nippy car you won't see that much of a difference except maybe on the motorway where it just pulls with ease.

If you've come from something slow then yes it will feel fast.

What car are you coming from?

I came from a 2.0L 140PS Audi and didn't feel it was much of a step up.

The GTD is certainly no slouch but its not a racer from the lights. You really have to work it to pull away quick. I've been caught out a couple of times with cars belting away off the lights. I don't race off the lights as that's not my game but the times where some arse comes up the inside lane knowing fine well there is an obstruction at the other side of the lights in that lane!! Once it gets going though it does fly.

Once you run it in I would definitely recommend a  DTUK CRD-T BOX.

You'll get more owners views over in the TDI section

Spec is so much down to personal taste. I do like the carbon grey, but much prefer the tartan cloth upholstery. I think the Golf interior can be a bit bland without them.

In 3 door form with 19" wheels it will certainly look the part, but I'd have spec'd DCC purely because I drove a loan 5 door GTD with the Santiago wheels and the ride was a bit hard on the roads where I live. Not unpleasantly so, but enough to think the DCC would have been worth the extra. Having said that if you're using it on the Motorway a lot I think you'll be fine.

Performance is an interesting one, I personally don't find mine particularly satisfying to drive fast. You have to be right in the thick of the rev range and this is where the diesel drivetrain is at it's most unrefined. On a motorway it's great, smooth and plenty fast enough.

The DCC is well worth the money don't know what the 19'' wheels will be like without DCC pretty harsh ride in you are in the Sheffield area where the roads are crap no wonder Nick Clegg spends most of his time in London.

I've got 19s and no DCC and the ride isn't that bad to be honest. I only got a quarter of a tank of fuel in mine when I first picked it up.

The Dynaudio system is amazing. (But I love my music anyway)

I found that it takes about 6K before the engine really loosens up and that it like be be driven more like a petrol. (push it to higher revs)

Coming from a Merc 220 and 180Bhp X-Trail it is very fast. You will enjoy the effortless acceleration.
