No Takers? My heated rear screen doesn't work anymore. When i press it on the light on the switch goes on, the RNS510 says on then goes off. This may have happened since the retrofit of the new led bi xenon lights. The dealer offered an explanation: Depending on the software due to the hot weather the heated rear screen wont turn on!
Does anybody's do this? The option is checked in VCDS.

Depending on what software exactly?  Have you tried changing the fuse?

On my 62 plate it's the same (but works). Press the rear heated screen button and orange light goes on and stays on.  RCD510 it shows the rear windscreen graphic and ON, then after couple of secs the graphic disappears but my rear screen does heat up.  I had to use it a couple of weeks back to clear loads of condensation caused by a sudden thunderstorm on a very warm/hot day.  Worked fine.

We changed the CECM for the upgrade in lights. Carsystems pl stated using the module ending in 87R. When we ordered from from the local VW dealer part number ended in 87 AE. So not only did i have a long running battle with a fault code, when i pressed the heated rear screen button it did as last post. I did check with the guy at work with my old 11 plate GT140 and his did as yours did. Phoned VW to see what was due for the service and queried with the service guy about the screen. He said depending on software it may only come on when the temperature drops! I take it that a CECM may have a base software loaded in it. If this is a feature my answer may be post the question on the MK7 forum. I did pull the fuse which i think is number 25 and 25amp, it was intact.

You're right what about the demisting of the rear screen, the temp thing doesn't ring true! When it goes in for the service i'll let them investigate, may be a warranty job.

Sounds like the usual dealer bullsh!t, but who knows?  Just get them to check it when it goes in.  Did you ask the mk7 lot?

I've not asked the mk7 lot, when you posted about the demisting of the rear screen that makes sense. Plus i did a search for a relay but came up with nothing for the mk6. Its possibly because it goes through the CECM that a relay might not be required....anybody know if it does have a relay?

You're right used this info originally http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=200792.0 could be relay 2, which is in the fuse box located in the engine bay.

There is a relay for the rear heated screen its on the top row of the on-board supply control unit (BCM) 4th from the left (the far right one). It is supposedly attached to the bottom of the BCM and is located in the drivers foot well area, near the ODB port.
