Tyre options for the GTI only
« on: 02 September 2014, 11:08 »
Hi all! New tyres will soon be needed and as you know the SS001'sare not an option as they are awful! Options i am considering are.
Good year eagle f1 asymmetrical 2
Michelin pilot sport 3
Continental contisport 5

I had the pilot sport 3 on my Megane RS and they were great! I will not consider any other tyre. Anyone running these?

Thanks!

I had the F1 on my Scirocco until I sold it last week - really liked them. They had quite a wide profile on my Scirocco wheels, which might help prevent the odd parking scuff. Is anyone running them on a GTI and finding that they have a similarly nice wide profile?

Didn't keep them long enough to comment on wear, but they seemed to grip well (admittedly they replaced some other tyres I was quite disappointed with, so not a fair comparison).

Always been a fan of Michelin PS3s, and Costco (if you are a member) do cracking deals on them. They are fully fitted for under £120 a corner and I would be very wary of some of the tyre monkeys elsewhere wrecking the wheel rim. Right now they are offering £30 Costco voucher for a pair or £70 for all 4. The Bridgestones are truly sh!te for initial grip in the dry and wet, I have suffered them on mine for a year now because i'm too tight to bin unworn tyres.  :grin:
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

At tyres-pneus-online.co.uk they are saying the GY-A1-F2's have been improved with a new formula.

Fuel rating goes from E to C
Now = 2011 MK6 GTI - Reflex Silver
Past = 2006 MK5 GTI - Tornado Red and Solid Black

What about some Pilot Super Sports especially if you are going to run winter wheels and go for some proper performance tyres

Would go for Michelin PS3. Have a set on my Megane and they are really good and silent.

The only problem with Goodyear is they are a soft compound and don't last that long.
