Sunroof Rattle

Over the past week or so, a rattle seems to have developed with the sunroof. Happens when closed or tilted open, but disappears when fully back. Anyone else got this issue?

That's very helpful. I have some silicone lubricant so will try that and see what happens! Thank you!

Unfortunately, the problem still exists. Can't really seem to pinpoint where in the sunroof the rattle is coming from, but it's very annoying in an otherwise quiet car. May have to book it in to the dealer

I have the same issue. Except the rattle stops when mine is fully open and in the tilt position. Like you say, it's very annoying and the rest of the car is "pin-drop" quiet! At least I'm not the only one with this issue. Anyone been to the dealers yet?

Hi Guys,

Just had a go at the solution posted on here and I have to say I think it's working! I too had some silicone lubricant and put it on a portion of the seal (After cleaning/degreasing with some washing up liquid) which looked like it was rubbing (White marks on the seal). I went for a drive and it was still there initially :-( I cycled the roof a few times and drove around a little longer and sure enough it got much better, almost to the point where it was completely gone! It only made a little noise when I went over uneven ground as the car chassis bends slightly. I have put more lubricant on as I was very sparing the first time. I also did the whole seal around the roof. Using a cotton bud allows you to get in the hard to reach places at the sides (roof fully open). You have to put the roof in the tilt position to reach the back of the sunroof.

If your still having issues have another go. It might just work for you. Thanks to AlanH for posting the solution.

I had the car in for its first service yesterday. I told them to investigate the sunroof rattle. Since I first posted this, I found that the rattle seemed to be coming more from the headlining and not the sunroof itself.

When I collected the car, they told me they had discovered where the rattle was coming from. It was coming from the clip on the driver's side sun visor (where the sun visor clips in to). Apparently they need to order me a new part and remove the headlining at the front to fit.

I'll keep the thread updated with progress...

I see the mk7 has a much larger glass area than the mk6, I have ordered it and hope it's quiet like the much smaller glass on my 6GTI

It doesn't seem to be coming from the sunroof itself, but rather the clip for the sunvisor is vibrating inside the headlining on anything other than a smooth surface.
