I have a 2.0gt diesel and the egr cooler had gone,at a cost of £900,vw paying half as it's a known issue.
are these fitted to petrol or just diesel ?
Are they fitted to gti ?

Just the diesels suffer the problem, some petrols have egr systems but generally on older small capacity engines. We do loads of them and there is a software update to go along with the revised EGR valves/coolers which is a combined unit that is a few hours labour to fit.

The MK6 has EGR built internally into the camshaft adjustment.
