Updating Maps on RNS510
« on: 28 August 2014, 00:03 »
Hi

Started to notice a couple of times that my maps on the SatNav are getting out of date with road changes etc.

Where can I buy a non-Stealer copy of the latest maps and how easy is it to update?

Also, do I need to update my firmware to accept the latest maps (not sure what my firmware version is but I can check at the weekend)

Thanks all

Hey pal,

Once you have found out what firmware and maps etc you currently have, pm 'dieselman' as he can provide updates. He provided me with my last firmware and maps update and all was ok.

Did you get the firmaware updated ok?

I actually have CD I got from the internet with the newest maps on released late last year but it just fails when I try to load it. I'm unsure if I need to do firmware first but worried I'll brick it

Hi

I've got firmware upgrades and new maps winging their way to me.

I'm told you need to update the firmware stage by stage then once done, install the new maps.

It will all depend what version of firmware and maps you are running and also what hardware edition it is? (Mine is a 'C' version)

I had that originally and had it enabled via VCDS (I borrowed one for beer tokens!)

I've now done the first of three firmware upgrades and all went smoothly <phew> and now at v3810.

2 more firmware upgrades to go then v11 maps. Hopefulyl all will go as smoothly for the rest of the updates.

I couldn't access secret menu either so I thought I must have been on a very old version (didn't know whether it was A B or C).

I got a copy from here http://www.my-gti.com/3868/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-download-repository

Upgraded straight to the 3810a_noru version firmware without issues and v8 navigation software. I've heard if you're on 3810 you can keep on upgrading the maps, but I've noticed the system is a touch slow.

@Buck let me know what you think of the firmwares above 3810, whether the interface is faster or not. I don't want to brick the unit so I can live with the slowness provided I can upgrade the maps without a firmware upgrade.
