yes i own a mk1

hey im new here (i like forums) and my mums got a peugot 206 so thats the car we travel in. my dads got a ford fiesta and used to have an ugly green pugeot 106, and before all them he had a vw golf mk1 that was fine (cant run anymore cause of slight engine disorder, soon on road though) it is red with slight rusting at the bottom and he's gave it to me now,hmmm pretty basic story but im only 13! ive got a few ideas on what to do

my friends dad is a car painter (airbrush to vinyls) and he said he's do it for me on his own (cheaper) (paint it) i'd like it to    be either blue or go over the rust bits, door handle, mirrors,etc.

put on black vinyl speed stripes.

de-badge then put on mesh

put in an induction kit

i'd like to do more. any ideas?

Hello Jordan - welcome to the forum mate....

First things first - lets see the little beastie. Plenty of people here with photoshop and nothing else to do (!) so you could do some virtual mods first before you spend any money!

well pester ya daddy for six grand, maybe do some odd jobs round the house! then get a nice 1.8 turbo shoe horned in! then get a full bare metal respray and some phat rims, get some coil overs! (you may need a paper round too mind!!) then wait 4 years and get some nice red L's on it! sweet! your first car!  :grin:

im on a really tight budget so im going to get my speed and bhp up first (then get some a good exterior)

13" rollers (at least 7" wide) slam it on some platformed shocks with adjustable inserts. then get a momo wheel and then worry about the motor.

You didn't say whether it was a Mk1 1.6 GTI or a 1.8 GTI or if it was a GTI at all.

I'd love to have been given my Dad's old Mk1 Golf, it was a blue P-reg 1.0L 3dr but alas no.

If the engine is knackered, swap for a newer engine from a Mk2 GTI, either the 1.8 8v (if you want to keep insurance down) or the 1.8 16v.
but if the engine is ok after a bit of tinkering, then keep it for a while, get the outside looking neat with some nice retro alloys and get that friend to help with the paint issues. Then once you've got some money saved up get the engine changed. Don't forget that swapping the engine will probably mean upgrading breaks and suspension too.
