Roof bars
« on: 22 August 2014, 21:50 »
Hi guys, just bought my first golf mk3, just wondering what roof bars I need, and more importantly how they fit, I've seen a few on e bay, but I'm reluctant to buy with out knowing first. No rails on the car, it's a 96.
Cheers in advance.

Dan

I got some auto maxi ones off eBay for like £8, look pretty old school being square but they work, they hook under the rubber guttering on a lip on the roof- if you look closely there are small arrows on the rubber guttering that show where they should be placed - if you want let me know and il take a picture of them in position so you have an idea of fitment.

ah right, pictures would be good for an idea how to fit, the bars are only going to be used for surfboards, so don't want them on permanently.

cheers

cheers for that, had a look at a few on google myself,

I've got the arrows showing me where the roof rack goes, so am I right in thinking the rubber seals lift off to put the roof rack on, the full length of the seal that is? or does the feet somehow slip under the seal???

cheers Dan

No don't take the seels off , they just slip under , on the inside edge of the rubber strip is dead flexy, lift that and there's a bit of a lip built into the roof and they hook onto that , don't pull the rubber back too far or it will unpop from the roof - I did that and I can't get mine to pop back ! If you pm me a email address is send you the close up of how mine are sat , just can't seem to insert pictures from my phone on the forum !

Sweet, just looked at it today and noticed that the seal lifts up a bit, so that should be it, just need to find some cheapish roof bars now. Cheers for your help
