Seat creak? Lots of creaks...
« on: 21 August 2014, 19:51 »
Hi,

My GTD's drivers seat is creaking like mad, searched on the forums, they say mess with the lumbar support, tried, but nothing happened, any fixes for this? I cant find a new seat anywhere either on its own.

To add to this annoying issue, the rear seats vibrate when knocked, and creak when someone sits there or even if I push them in  my mk5 doesn't do this and it's a 2004 with 160k on it!

to top this off theres a horrible creaking coming from my C piller on the passenger side which I think is the plastic fixings flexing I think? another thread about this already, and my front passenger side clunks when going over sleeping policemen (could be drop links or subframe clunk!)

My drivers door also rattles when the volumes high, door card might need tightening up.

I wonder if anyone can recommend a mechanic, or interior specialist to look at these issues?

Had it with this car, feels so cheap compared to my mk5 which is solid to this day apart from 1 annoying rattle. If I cant fix it, I'm going to sell it and save for a mk7 2.0tdi bluemotion econmobile :embarrassed:

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I had a creaky seat on my 2011 Polo.  The solution was for the seat base to be replaced, fortunately I was able to have mine done under warranty.

They're complaining about build quality on the MK7 forums as well!
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

Creaky drivers seat arrrrr... mine has just started creaking aswell, most noticeable on roundabouts, happened ever since I cleaned the leather with zaino leather soft spray cleaner, wondering if its a coincidence, previously had only ever used a damp microfiber.

C pillar trim also vibrates along with rear lights and hatch inner panel, along with a passenger door rattle(suspect door handle)
A trip back to dealer is in order.

You must have the only rattle free mk5 in existence...lol,

It's known as VAG 1 year syndrome, build quality and the lack of quality control on parts is the  Phucking  worst in the motor industry, living off past reputations I'm afraid, MK7 worse than ever.

Don't know why I love mine so much because in reality its a piece of sheite.

It might not be a standard solution but spray everything with "Duck oil" do they still have that stuff?

forgot to mention, add to the list the sunglasses holder in the roof vibrates now.

Car had its 2 year birthday couple of weeks ago and ever since then rattles and vibrations have started, probably well past its sell by date I expect.

Krytox and cloth tape worked wonders on my previous couple of mk5's (bit of a common theme going on)

anyone know if they sell duck oil in 5 litres......

Well might sound harsh, but I do take comfort in knowing I'm not the only one!

I've figured out a few ways to fix my issues, the seat, well I've got that booked into a trimmers to have a look at the drivers and rear seats. They're convinced it's the first golf they've seen that has creaky foam!

The seat rattle when going over sleeping policemen is because of the split fold seats, I will just put some felt or material in between so they are more secure.

The drivers door is from 70k of slamming the door shut I'm sure, so I will remove the drivers door card, and put it back together using new clips and tightening everything up.

the doors creaking, is the door rubbers i'm sure. Bit of krytox should help.

Boot area, is the fact the cars had a rear end impact, and the boot seal isn't mating to the bootlid perfectly, this is going to the body shop to sort out the alignment.

The steering rack creaking is not so common so i'll leave that.

Will get rid of the hard ass bridgestone potenza S001's as they are too harsh on 18's even with ACC in comfort.

But I might just sell the car it leaks and has had too much bodywork... throw money at it? or lose 2k selling private or px... Buuuutt that's another thread entirely! aha

Mine's gone the other way, 2 years old today and finally creak and rattle free (for now ).  Usually listen to music but switched it off today is I could relish the rare silence.

Krytox worked for me on door seal creaks.
