Standard Exhaust for MK5 GTI

Hi guys,

I have a 06 mk5 GTI. 43k miles. I have developed a rattle and I think the exhaust is on the way out. I want a standard exhaust. Been quoted by VAG approx. £500 for rear box fitted. £200 for centre section and £800 for downpipe. Where is the best place to get this sorted. I am not able to fit myself. Need a complete job.

For that price you could get a complete after market system which can be tailored to how loud or quiet you want it and give you better performance

Spending £1500 on a standard exhaust seems madness to me!!!

Check out the For Sale section too as people who have changed their exhausts might be selling their standard one

You could probably ebay yourself a second hand one every other year until you no longer own the car and not spend £1500 

That said your rattle may not be the exhaust and might be a heat shield

Thanks for the replies guys. I have identified the rattles. It was the drivers side rear brake dust cover. Going to have this replaced as it requires the brake caliper and the disc to be completely removed.

On the exhaust front I have ordered a Cobra resonated system. This will be fitted next Saturday by Cobra motorsport. As these things are manufactured in Sheffield it was really a simple decision. I went down to there showroom/manufacturing facility which is only 20 minutes from my home. I will keep you posted when this is fitted.

Have had the Cobra exhaust system fitted. Really happy with the work. Looks good, sounds good and will last.
