Wheel bearing?

I've been noticing a sound which to me is like a wheel bearing low humming when driving. It's been doing it for a few months and doesn't appear to be getting any worse which makes me think it's not a bearing on it's way out.

Spoken to a couple of people who think it's just road noise, but i'm not sure and wondered if anyone else has noticed a similar sound.

What tyres are you using and how much thread is left?

I had this on my mk5 Golf GT 2.0 TDI and it was due to uneven tyre wear (Bridgestones) on the inside edge of the rear tyres.

If you Google 'sawtooth tyre wear', you'll find it's quite a common problem.

Jack it up and have a look. Rock the wheels on whatever side you think its coming from. This however doesnt always show upa wheel bearing. Tyres can be noisy though. Check the noise ratings.

I would exclude tyres first as the others have said. Swap them around to see if the noise moves? 

But it could be a bearing. They go in different ways.

I had an A4 (B5) previously that rumbled on for many thousands of miles without getting any worse. On the other hand the one on this Golf went from silent to vibrating the floor pan in about 1,000 miles.

pirelli p-zeros on the front and some cheapo ones on the back that the previous owner had on there. tread looks ok on all 4 tbh.

do you think it's worth getting all 4 calibrated on a hunter machine like some suggest?

Right now I would point the finger at the cheap tyres and I guarantee the rear will  be out of alignment when measured on the Hunter.
