I bought mine from JCB as well and drove it back to Glasgow.
Asked them just to take the protective sheets off and jet wash it. It doesn't make for an exciting handover but at least the paintwork will be okay

When I asked on here about my drive home, I was advised going the motorway was probably the worst thing for a brand new engine as I should really be varying the revs. So with that in mind I would slow right down in 3rd and accelerate up through the gears.  Other drivers near me must have thought I was crazy

I think as long as the oil is up to temp and you and revving the nuts off it, it will be fine.

I never noticed a paint defect until I was all the way home so inspect the car very carefully!!

Thats interesting about the paint heard a few say that don't let them prep the paint. Might take it to my paint man man when I get home

The dealer never inflicted the paint damage. It came like that from the factory. Almost looks like rust is bubbling underneath it!!!

I will look out for that but often you don't notice theses things until you wash the car. I will be 330 miles from home with no transport so have to be bad for me to refuse but cant get any defect recorded.

Morning Steve

I had the same journey back to St Austell last November when I collected mine from JCB Medway, M25/M3 to Basingstoke will probably be busy so plenty of stop/start and varying the revs, then take the A303/A30 all the way back to Cornwall. Its quit a nice drive back, and by then the A30 won't be full of caravans so you can have a bit of fun, I'm sure I drove all 300 miles with a massive grin on my face

Think I saw you in st austell last evening, N66 *** ? looked great in red, I am in a dilemma now as ordered white and thinking the red is better, what do I do , doing my head in

I also had an odd experience with Carrs at Indian Queens in Cornwall.  I am suprised they are still operating.  March last year when the first order books for the GTI were opened. I went in to Carrs and had already been to other places before them.  I asked them if we could do a deal on the price and they said VW policy do not do any deals, the price is the price and that's it.  I said i had seen others who had knocked a few quid off on first orders, but Carrs still told me 100% price or not interested and to go elsewhere.  It was as if I was bothering them by trying to give them my money, very odd franchise.  I ended up getting my car from Mann Egerton in Exeter and the service for me has been first class.  The customer service from the franchise is part of the experience of buying a new car.

Yes I find it odd that I went into the showroom with 25K to spend and they did not even ask me to sit down. I have found the service side pretty good but the sales have that bit of arrogance. I did get to about 6% discount offered last year when the GTI first came out. When I mentioned 12% from drive the deal this year they smiled through gritted teeth and told me to take the deal and goodbye. A bit of a shame as like to keep my money in Cornwall. The Exeter dealer through Carwow offered around 10% and was great to deal with but I took the extra £700 discount and will travel to collect my car and enjoy the 330 mile trip home

You must good at striking a deal to get 6% offered.  I tired the same tricks in the book and they would not budge from 100% price.  Enjoy the GTI.  I have a GTI PP in Oryx White.  It is an awesome car to drive.  It is still the only GTI I have seen in North Cornwall so far?  However there are lots of GTD's.

Might have been a bit less and was on a GTD at the time to be fair. Mind you the chap I dealt with is not there anymore ! I have ordered PP pure white but unsure as red looks stunning. Love Oryx white and will be rare due to the cost.

Can let you have a look if in the local area.  It looks stunning in Oryx White with the red accent around the front and red brake calipers.  To be honest Pure White is the same paint as Oryx White just that Oryx has an extra lacquer on top to add the pearl effect. In certain light you would be hard pressed to noticed the difference between pure white and oryx.  It's only noticable when you get a bit of direct light hitting the paint allowing the speculaity of the pearl effect to do it's thing. To back up my statement, I bought Oryx White spray can the other day and it comes in a set of three cans, one is Pure White, the others are laquer and pearl effect coating.

So pure white is not far off having Oryx anyway. Enjoy the car, you will not regret choosing the white either, trust me
