Mk3 GTi issues
« on: 16 August 2014, 17:07 »
Hello all. So the golf is causing me some issues now. The car came fitted with a performance induction kit and twin exhaust. There's is a juddering issue which I hope is sorted by a service, however there seems to be issues regarding power. When I put my foot down there is no power at times and I have noticed a slight misfire at times also. Anyone know what could be causing this?

first off get yourself a cheap code reader off eBay think mine was called a u281,you will be able to read faults and clear them, change relays 30 and 167 these are ecu and fuel pump relays and are a known common fault, change the fuel filter, replace all the fabric covered vac lines with 3mm ID silicone hose, clean your throttlebody, then report back :-)

So I cleaned the throttle body which was filthy along with changing spark plugs. The car has a rough idle now to the point where the car shakes really bad. Have ordered the U281 fault code scanner will plug it in and read faults. Will get get contact cleaner and clean contacts as there was oil on the sensor

You can try cleaning the sensor (electrical contact cleaner) which does work sometimes but not allways ,running unplugged is only ok for the short term the ecu will be fueling the engine at a default setting so wont be running at its best, performance or economy.

most likely not gonna show faults

normally then makes sense to look at measuring blocks but cheapo reader can't do that.

I received the fault code reader today and it read the following faults:
00283 - abs wheel speed signal no1
00532 - supply voltage B+
17978 - immobiliser?
00537- oxygen sensor
00520 - mass air flow sensor
