DAB radio and mobile phone hands free.
« on: 16 August 2014, 10:04 »
I have A DAB radio in the car, unsure of the model.  But heating and ac controls come up on the display if that helps.

When I press the DAB button nothing happens. I can see channels on the display but that's it.  I'm guessing maybe it doesn't have a DAB aerial? Any advice appreciated.

Also I would like hands free, I'm pretty sure the car doesn't have Bluetooth. Well I can not sync to the radio anyway. The strange thing is it has a MIC high level near roof lights? Can I connect if I got a media cable or does this only work for music. The phone I have is an iphone 5.

First off welcome to the forum mate. Whereabouts in Lincs are you? I'm working at Waddington most weeks.

From the sounds of it you have a RCD510 DAB. Unfortunately I'm not sure on answers to most of your questions apart from the last one. I take it when you say media cable you mean an MDI (Media Device Input) cable? Do you have the MDI unit under the armrest in the car? Anyway this cable will only play music through the car it won't be able to do phone calls or anything like that.

Weird that your DAB isn't working and that you have mic but no bluetooth. Maybe the head unit has been retrofitted but not coded correctly? Not sure on this, I don't have bluetooth or DAB on my head unit so can't help much there I'm afraid. Sure someone will be able to give you some pointers though.

If no sat nav, sounds like rcd510.  Don't know what year your car is but check under drivers seat for a Bluetooth box, although some aftermarket systems don't have the box.  The presence of the mic suggests maybe it has or did have Bluetooth?

DAB aerial (if present) is integrated into rear windscreen usually.

Are you sure you have the mic fitted and not just the casing. You will only get DAB reception if you have the necessary DAB module in the rear of the car. If the head has been retrofitted and the antenna amplifier has not been changed from FM to a FM/DAB module you wont get the DAB reception. Sorry I don't have the part numbers for the Golf. Also worth checking the MK6 maintenance and info as several threads about DAB and Bluetooth.

I assume you have tried scanning for DAB stations? you should get the national BBC ones at a bare minimum. If under the drivers seat you have a Bluetooth module you will need to use the DIS in the dash clocks to make it connect to the phone.

I'm in the lincoln area mate. The car is a 59 plate. Just checked under the seat and there doesn't appear to be a Bluetooth box.
The MIChas been retro fitted, I'm going to take the stereo out in a bit and have a look where it goes.

I'm guessing the stereo may have been retrofitted afterwards. And maybe hasn't got the dab module. I will have. Look and see what modules are in the boot lid
