Parking sensors
« on: 16 August 2014, 09:55 »
Hi guys. Just bought a 59 plate gti and I have a few queries.

There are sensors on the front bumper, should these start beeping when I'm in a forward gear and park say front first upto a wall.  Currently nothing happens.?

When I select reverse. I get a long beep for say 5s and the button near gear stick flashes.  Again nothing happens when I reverse park?

I like to do my own mechanics, any tips on sorting the problems with back sensors and what should happen with the front etc.

Thanks steve

Welcome Steve to the forum and congratulations on your purchase!

I have parking sensors on my car, and although I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions on what what might be causing the problems with yours, this is how mine work.

Putting the car into reverse, you should get a short 'beep' to confirm both the front and rear sensors are activated, and the colour of the symbol on the parking sensor button in front of the gear lever should illuminate (mine doesn't flash). If you've got either of the VW touchscreen audio head units, (RCD510 or RNS510), there'll also be a visual display on the audio screen; a birds eye view of the car, with orange/yellow indicators showing the proximity of any objects - like the one in the link below;

The front sensors won't be activated automatically if you don't select reverse gear. They can be manually activated for forward-parking manoeuvres when you've not needed to select reverse gear, by pressing the 'P' button in front of the gear lever.

Good luck in getting yours sorted.

Thanks mate.

It's the stereo unit in the pic you linked(RCD510)

When ou select reverse it has a constant beep for 5 seconds and the light in front of gear stick flashes.  nothing appears on the screen on the stereo.

Also when you drive forward to park nose first and press the button, nothing happens?

Has anybody had this issue

the long beep usually indicates a fault with the system. it could be a sensor gone, you'll need vagcom or similar to read the fault codes in the park assist module.

The rear sensors will become active once in reverse gear. To engage front sensors without putting in reverse gear all you need to do is press the sensor button in the centre console, just in front of the gear stick
