What Am I Doing Wrong?

59 reg GTD and this has the WORST heating system going?!!! Today for instance....it rained like cats and dogs!  was outside got soaked and went in the car and instantly the car 'steamed' up so I put the heating on and did it clear it no? still has condensation on windows and the same in winter? what is wrong with the car its mad!!! All filters changed and nothing....my mk4 works better than mk6 and is older?!!

I know what you mean.  Sometimes you get an odd mix of weather/humidity which causes weird behaviour and the blowers / demister struggles to have any effect.  I had an odd occurrence whilst driving yesterday.  Had been driving about 20 mins, windows all clear, air con off, then it started thundering and lightning and car instantly steamed up on all windows.  It got so bad I nearly had to pull over as visibility was getting really bad, on a dual carriage way at the time so not ideal!!  In the end the only thing that helped was opening the windows (and getting soaked in the process) which cleared it.

nothing was on ie in winter just blowers on AC not lit or dual...saving fuel and today I did the same just turned dial on drivers to HI and that was it nothing else was on ie ac or dual

Never had a problem with the Golf, had a Seat leon fr latest version and same as what you describe. Very poor demisting the windscreen. Maybe when it damp inside it's picking up moisture if you recirc the air within the car instead of from the outside.....all else failing and forgive my "wit" as people to send you those little silicon sachets that absorb moisture in training shoes etc..

What am I missing here? Two complaints about cars steaming up and neither have the air con switched on, to be fair though one of the posts is hardly legible. Try switching it on ya tight buggers

Mine does the same. Just make sure the air con is switched off.

No complaint on my part, merely pointing out to the OP that sometimes you get a freak mix of conditions that creates instant condensation and air con makes this type of situation worse, hence why it was switched off.  I can live with the odd bit of condensation
