fed up of this
« on: 10 September 2005, 15:06 »
dunno if my clutch is shagged or not is there any sure way of knowing?  I have had this idle problem for a while but im starting to think its the clutch.  When i push the clutch in the revs shoot up to 3000 its annoying.  Also I pulled out of a junction today and i lostallpower car wouldnt go over 50.  When i stopped i could smell like a tarry rubber burning smell.  Checked everything started up again and car was alright except it seems to be idling well high.  Tried sorting out the idle via the idle screw  but it doesnt work.  Help its pissing me off cheers

Has the cluth been done recently? Maybe something like the pressure plate has gave in causing it to engage constantly.

had the car 2 years and theclutch hasnt been done.  It bites very high so gonna replace it anyway.  Sorted out the high revs turned out to be a sticking ISV   Doesn't explain the power loss and the burning smell tho
thx for your help

It does if there is fook all left on the friction plate, as all you will be running on is bare metal in the clutch housing. HEnce they will be burning when spinning and as all golf clutches on mk2s are dry clutches then they run the risk of welding together.

Get it done as soon as, might i suggest getting a sachs sports clutch aswell, they are a bit more hardy and will give you a nicer bite when they go engage.
