Missing the ED!

Having posted for a LONG time guys, so apologies for just firing a random post out of nowhere!

The ED35's come up 2 years old now and covered as near as makes no difference 30k, lots of commuting with lots of fun has been the order of the day for the last year and the 35 still put's a big smile on my face. It was notably special for 10 days in Scotland, tearing up any road it came across. (Although the irritating rattle from behind the centre vents, only when it's hot outside and the air con is on  I'm not so fond of)

But, at the end of June I had to say a tender farewell, along with the standard detailing and prep req's for long term storage, as I am currently in Tanzania working...until Christmas! Problem is, I'm missing the car A LOT! I've never smoked or been subjected to withdrawal symptoms of any kind, but I'm seriously struggling with no car or bike to play with! And it's not helping that I'm banned from driving or riding anything whilst I'm here!

However, I am spending some of my (excessive) downtime to catch up with all that I've missed on the forum in the last 12 months!  , as well as planning a map for the car when I'm home  :whistle

So I guess this post is really a re-introduction back to the forum!

Have you got a picture of the Ed35 in your wallet, for when the separation gets too much   

Lovely cars, so understand why you miss it.  You'll appreciate it all the more on your return.  Is there nothing else to occupy you in your downtime over there?

Certainly will! Not particularly, it's an interesting place but everyone is busy with their own and family lives, so the 'mzungu' as I'm know here (literally 'wandering person' to describe white people) ends up with a lot of free time to do very little! There's only so many beaches that you can lie on before they become boring! One good thing, as I'm still on my UK wage in a country where $50 is the average monthly earnings, I keep getting treated like royalty

Nice looking car

I have a late '12 ed 35 and the reason i bought it was that it had the same engine as my previous ed30. The combo of the ed30 engine in the mk6 chassis and interior was too good to pass up. Its now stage 1 and  is such a competent all rounder now i couldn't think what else would do the trick, as a great daily driver, this side of a Cayenne turbo! The only thing i may still change is to go for 18" wheels as the 19's and Conti SC5 combo is not as sweet a ride.

Cheer's TTDan. Is your's a DSG, and if so how does it cope with the extra torque of the map? I know that VW's limit on the DSG is 350Nm, and a stage 1 would push the torque to around 400?

Mines a manual. Bluefin with a tweak to the throttle map to smooth it out a bit so 400nm and around 290 bhp (claimed and feels like on the butt dyno)

Cheers TTDan, will look into it a bit more but it's something that I've been thinking about now we're getting towards the end of the warranty, my brother has a mapped and DPF delete Leon FR which is now the car it should have been when I had it!!
