I actually got the head off a guy with the cam for £150. When it went in for some more work it had two bent exhaust valves, I was gunna switch them out for some I had off my original head. Found out they didn't fit, measured all the valves and realised they were all oversized. Out of all the TSR head (knew it was a TSR head) the pack d was the only one with the same sized valves. Pretty lucky tbh. The agg bottom end gives tones of torque compared to the 1.8, find myself going everywhere in a higher gear.

do you notice any loss of torque lower in the revs since you had head done? and what was actually done to it? and how much it cost you?

No loss of torque lower down, drives similarly/slightly better as before but has added power at the top end.  As I said before, my power band is now between 4200 revs up to the red line pretty much, so when driving normally I still get the benefits of frugal fuel consumption but when I want it the extra power is there.  Even though its only a small gain in power it is very noticable due to the lightness of the car and the fact it was previously under power (103bhp - supposed to be 112bhp).  Now max power stands at 123bhp.

Just had the cylinder head ported and poilshed along with new valves and valve guides.  Was looking into getting bigger valves but was advised against it as more often than not it offers no major gain and is more cost to modify.

Drives extremely well now, still feels very responsive and torquey low down as it should, the only other mod I have is the K&N panel filter.  My exhaust is OEM.

Can't remember cost exactly but it was around £700.  The head needed to come off anyway to investigate when it was smoking so much which was a combination of old valves and leaking head gasket.  Therefore I thought if I'm going to get it ported and polished now was the time whilst the head was off anyway.  Cams is less labour as you don't need to take the head off to do it.

All in all I'm chuffed with it and love driving my mk2!

was that a drive in/ drive out price? if so then that is pretty decent for 10% power increase

There is a guy called mr.hillclimber on club gti that builds race heads. He has some  it's 8v engines. It's important to match the compression with the cam so go and ask him. He is the best Person I know who will know the right compression for each cam.

You don't have to be a member to email him but it does help.

yeah suppose so but going by my research 15 thou seems a fair compromise. if you over skim then you can adjust timing to compensate but if you under skim then you've had it

Or you over skim and the valves smash the f**k out of the themselves on the pistons. Do you know if that head has ever been skimmed before and by how much?
