Pottinger if you think it's a good deal and your happy with it go for it but if your second guessing yourself you are answering your own question. I would take it out for a long test drive on as many different road types and see if you could live with it

^^^i agree with this....conv is def a compromise....if you're really wanting balls out stuff you will be disappointed.  Not sure on your situ but if I understood your maths right, you could sell your car separately and get a far better cash deal as these have been hanging around the dealers a while...it's a hell of a lot of car for the money but my caveat above applies......

Cheers guys, I'm not after a ballsd out experience... I liked the 2.0 tdi golf cab I used as a loaner hence my want to buy one so don't think it will be less entertaining than that lol....

However, selling my car (realistically privately for a good price) mayb 22.5k
Add 5.5k gives total 28k to spend on a convertible.

So, I must hv 4 seats too. This is 3 months old, 4k miles and new circa £38.5k (not that a build calculator is what you would pay but you get my drift...)

So for 28k give me some options or examples that you think I should consider.... Also, do not want anything over a year old.....

For your budget and under a year old I think these are your options:

I'm not a convertible person so not best placed to give opinions but these are the possibles as far as I'm aware

They're hideous, especially the back end, but then most vauxhalls are. I have the shame of having a Vauxhall on my driveway, HWMBO's van.

Not a big fan of any cabriolet, we just don't get the weather for them here.  I prefer the seclusion of a nice dark cabin, even a sun/panoramic roof is too much

thought about them tbh, anywhere near the same year/spec etc are heavily twice the ctc price to the R cab.....

I totally agree with most of the press stuff.....

launch price of 40k plus for the R cab was utterly stupid and I would have said crazy to buy one.
VW price drop of 5K STILL makes me thinks 35k plus options is not even worth a sniff.

My deal
for an almost new cab R

£28.5k
BUT
my car has been given a prt ex price of 23k, I personally don't think I would get 20k privately...
so they obviously want rid.

SO, if the press at the time of launch where told the car was £28.5 - £30k new they may hv thought this quite a good buy ....

either way, the other cabs listed above just don't float my boat.... so maybe I have convinced myself lol

Is the part ex deal they're offering only if you go for this Golf R cab?

I'd be questioning how much I really wanted a convertible when I could sitting in a beautiful Mk7 GTI PP for the same money (actually I'd be looking at used Cayman Ss for that price but hey). I don't understand why you say you want a car less than a year old but you want a cab that is based on the previous generation of Golf and so is really an old model in my view. I'm not trying to mock you or anything here,I just don't quite understand your thinking behind this.

As for £38.5k new, that is ridiculous!!!

Just make sure that it's the right car for you and take the long test drives etc that others have mentioned. I don't want to sound negative but if it's depreciated that much in 4 months then it's going to be a costly mistake if you buy it and then decide it's not for you!

tbh it has to be cab - I have a lovely ed35 and would keep that over a mk7 gti .....
yes, the old model side of things can rear its head BUT there wont be a mk7 cab out for quite some time, that im sure of.
Agreed 38.5k stupid money and no I would pay that... im not - in reality with my ed35 deprecation the cost for the R cab roughtly comes out at circa 24.5k with free servicing.
less than a year old gives me quite a good amount of warranty.

I personally like the styling of the cab R more than any A3 or 1 series ive seen tbh... A5 is possible and may test one of those
before the R ....

depreciation is a concern but cant see it being catastrophic over a couple of years....
