Are the wheels themselves undamaged? If you got crappy Bridgestones, could be the perfect opportunity to get some grippy rubber on the fronts, like Michelin PS3s from Costco, £120.a corner.

Shouldn't be using a different tread pattern across the same axle. Surely the dealer would know this!!

As you have new ones down one side (same rotation, so can't be swapped to the other side), and the Conti 5s are better than the Conti 2s, you do have a mix on the same axle (for both axles) - you need the old ones swapped out too.

VAG seem to get a lot of obsolete variants of tyres as OEM fit (minimum costs for "decent/premium" tyres I presume), which is a real bother when you have a puncture and only want one replaced - you can't find them in retail.

The XL on the new tyre denotes a high end load rating, probably load 95 compared to load 92 on the old ones - not a bother on different axles, but on the same axle it is a concern as the 2 tyre types will flex differently under load.

Conti 5s are supposed to be excellent all round. Barryg probably won't know how good until they've scrubbed in after 200 miles.
