Scrapping my ride/ body shell dipposal
« on: 26 July 2014, 22:07 »
I've got a mk3 golf I've stripped of all parts so I'm only left with the body shell a few dented panels and the crap that isn't worth saving.  I've lost the logbook to... I've rang around to get it picked up and scrapped but they won't take it.  1 I have no log book and 2 it's not a full car.
So what do I do with it?? Can I take it to a scrap yard? Cut it up? What's my options?

Least hassle option, cut it up into metre ish size metal chunks then just weigh it in at a scrap yard mate

Just remember to send the paperwork off to the dvla!  I scrapped a car, got fined 18 months later for not sending paper work off -_-

Paperwork??? I take it you mean logbook right?  So ill need to get a new 1 from DVLA before I weight it in.  Which isn't really a big deal just means I can't start to dismantle my dead passat til it's gone coz I'm a bit short on space.

A lot of breakers yards won't take bare shells now as they make no money from them as there won't be any parts to strip themselves but a scrap metal merchant will more than likely collect it for free. It's what I did with my stripped mk3 shell.

Sounds like your asking the wrong people. My local scrap yard will collect with a skip waggon, weigh it at the yard then pay me the money.

If I ain't got a logbook then they don't care.

When was the last time you did this ? Don't know anywhere that would dare do it now, not worth risking

Few years ago was different story

Virtually every month

Some of the smaller family owned yards need the scrap so might take the risk.

Long shot, but when my bro had to scrap an old car, we asked the local fire service if they wanted a car to practise on. See if they want it to train new guys on cutting up cars.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!
