-- GTI 16V Decat method?---
« on: 24 July 2014, 16:18 »
Hi guys,

Running a GTi 16V ABF and recently experienced CAT failure noise, it sounds like internal breaking or something loose also have noticed pre and post CAT o2 sensors embeded, would be any preoblem if I go for DECAT and plug thems back in a new pipe which I assumes both will read  same O2 level unlike when CAT installed.

And would the CAT wanring light show up?

Cheers,

PS, Sorry for my English, I am from Thailand

Sorry for a off topic and very silly question, but what ddoes the "CAT" stand for, and what does it warn about? Never seen that warning light ever. (Swedish 16v ABF dosent have that).

EDIT: Ah oki, CAT is "Catalytic. But why do you have a warning for it?

Think Jap/Auzzy/US VW's have tougher emissions controls (power is down as a result)
Plug it in to vag com, but I fear you need a new cat and or sensors

So you have o2 sensor after the cat to read emissions?  Our o2 sensor is before the cat so doesn't matter.

When I had a saxo vts we also had the o2 sensor after cat and to trick the sensor we sleave the sensor so just the end can read emissions otherwise you'll always have the warning light on.

Yes, right, That's what I am wondering :) ... Probably to state the status of Catalytic by Lambda signal

Soory for unclear, The light not showed up yet, just afraid if DECAT will turn them on.
In the picture is only pre start stage.

Yeah 2 sensors exactly. So, removing CAT has highly chance to have the light on, right?

Another question, saw many DECAT pipes on EBAY UK like this, so most of them Europe spec will have only one lambda slot
and have no CAT warning light?

The CAT light on the dash should be a cat temp light and the second sensor is the temp probe.

On my Evo 4 I had I decated it and joined the wires on the temp probe and that sorted the light on the dash.

Got an update from local VW shop that removing CAT will definitely turns the warning on.
Recommendation is that me to do whatever and plug the 2nd sensor back then they will help fool
the sensor wire by capacitor.

will keep you guys updated.

Thank you

As I said in my previous comments.  Sleeve the second sensor. Click on the link in my comment
