Door pins
« on: 20 July 2014, 20:49 »
I've just bought my 5th and final  :lipsrsealed: gti but it has no door pins. Taken aback by the rest of its features I didn't even ask the seller why they were missing.
I took a quick look at the holes and there is nothing for the pin to sit/screw into? is there a part I can purchase off the bay or VW heritage?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
James

There is nothing showing on the VW Heritage site, but I guess you would have looked and found that out yourself.

Take the door cards off and see if they are just poked down in and not lined up with the holes in the cards. Often people fit aftermarket pins that are too long. To make them fit, they cut down the existing threaded rods, so they could be hiding beneath the cards.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Either way you will need to remove the door card. As above, rod has either been removed or cut down. Reseal the door membrane nice and tight as well.

The rod is easy to make if needed so don't sweat that, the difficult bit is getting some genuine door pins.
Again these can be made but it all adds up.
Where in sarf london are you?

right after taking the door card off It has no rod for it to sit in. Nothing at all, and I'm not sure what it would look like.
Anyone got any breaking mk2's around?
again thanks for all the help
