Cold air intake
« on: 20 July 2014, 15:02 »
Hello all,

I've just had my ED 30 remapped to 293bhp and now want to add a cai and cat back exhaust I was just wondering what everyone here is using? With so many intakes to choose from and not being able to hear them before I buy I thought I'd ask what experiances you have all had. Regarding the exhaust I have used Milltek before on my GTTDI but with the Milltek basically being the the most expensive and the fact that I'm not really intending to spend shed loads of money on this car, again I'm interested in what make of exhaust you guys have used.

Cheers Rollsey

Hi mate

I'm using a Volkswagen Racing intake and APR RSC exhaust...
If you don't want to use Milltek - there is always Scorpion!
Intakes that I have seen to work on customer's cars as well as the VWR one, include the ITG one and Forge Twintake.
Depending on how far you want to take your mods, you have to look at some of the better brands out there for the best results.

Over on another forum, the most popular (by quite some margin) is a BCS Power Valve exhaust system (www.powervalve.co.uk). Cost for a full turbo back exhaust system is around the £1200, but if you look at the gallery, the quality and fit is beautiful. Going to swap to one of these systems myself.

Again, intakes are subjective depending on your preference for closed or open filters. A closed system like the VW Racing intake will set you back nearly £420, an open air equivalent is the Revo ceramic coated intake (again, one of the most popular). But EVOMS (Evolution Motorsport) do an intake (which is also well liked) for around £310 (including heat shield).

Hope this helps. If not, get on Google and search out the other VW Golf forums and have a look through project threads and bits to get a feel of what's hot and what's not.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen!

I will check out scorpion exhausts as i used milltek on my GTTDI and fancy something different this time, I did consider Cobra, I quite liked the sound! Im happy with my bhp of 293 so the exhaust and intake for me is all about the sound at the mo. I find the ED 30 to sound quite un excitable with the standard exhaust and it definitely does not do the car justice. Also I spent around 8K modding my GTTDI and dont really want to spend that kind cash on this one. Exhaust, intake and remap is all that is going to happen! I love the look of the VWR intake but without being able to hear what they sound like makes it a really difficult job to decide which intake to go with. I have looked at vids on you tube but the sound quality of some of the vids is terrible. A lot of intakes I have heard sound like Darth Vader! I want to be able to hear it but don't want it too loud.

Thanks again

Rollsey

If you're after noise from the intake, avoid closed intakes like the VW Racing one. An EVMOS or ITG may be the best route to go. Also, have a look at the BCS system in action;
