Passenger Door Rattle
« on: 17 July 2014, 17:29 »
Hi all, my MK7 GTD has a rattle coming from the passenger door, specifically (I think) from the area around the mirror and air vent. it's audible when going over bumps, and also at a certain point in the rev range when accelerating hard.

It's evident I'm not the only one who has experienced this, but has anyone actually found a fix, or can anyone suggest how to cure it?

Not sure if it's related but I have a rattle on my GTi around the driver side vent and it rattles around 2500rpm to 3000rpm. I have taken mine in and VW are saying it's to do with a clip on the turbo. (Not fully explained but I'm guessing around the wastegate) common fault on the last few models. Not sure if because yours is a gtd if the turbo would be heard the other side of the car?

Could be completely unrelated but hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply.

It's definitely the door/air vent - happened a lot on the drive to work this morning, just can't pinpoint exactly where from the drivers seat.

The car is hopefully going in for new rear shocks when VW eventually sort their supply problems, so I'll have to ask them to check it out.

I was caught out like this too! A rattle in my seat was driving me bananas... brought it back to the dealers and within an hour they called me to say the car was fixed, ready to collect. That was quick I thought! Anyway, service man grins at me as he hands me a 2 cent copper coin... it had been rolling back and forth in the seat runners...
