GTI Edition 30 Rear Valance; sacrilege?
« on: 13 July 2014, 09:04 »
Hi Folks,

Just registered and introduced myself in the new members section.

One of my first plans with my 2007 silver edition 30 is to get a de-cat turbo back Milltek put on, but am considering also attending to a little pet hate of mine.  As much as I love the aggressive front end of the Edition 30 versus the R32, I despise the rear of the ED30 and prefer the R32 rear.

Noticed on eBay there are some rear valances you can buy to effectively have an R32 look or quad exit look.  Is this is a common modification or is it considered sacrilege on a limited edition car such as the ED30?  Any members had this done and can offer any tips or advice?

There are a few people who have done tail pipes a la R32 and quads. RedRobin has Quad pipes.
Personally I like the R32 conversion as it still remains in the realms of OEM+ and I am biased as I have a MKVI R.

Definitely not sacrilege though.

That's the combination I've just added to my GT TDI, Ed30 front and R32 rear - the pick of the bunch in my opinion.

If you like the R32, go for it...it's not like you can't reverse it in the future.

It's an easily reversible mod, so not really sacrilege as you're not hacking any original ED30 parts, just temporarily fitting different ones.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even with an R32 rear bumper, you can still use a different valance and have a stock style exhaust, although the heat shield will be in the wrong place. So it's a half way house between R32 rear and OEM ED30 rear.
