intermittent ticking problem
« on: 08 September 2005, 20:06 »
i have had the above problem for about 6 months now,i replaced the hydraulic lifters with euro car part ones, but the problem is still with me,it is deffo a top end ticking,i had the same on both my mk2's and new lifters cleared this(the were gen vag lifters),have i got a bad lifter, one thing i have noticed is,that it is not all the time sometimes when i start in the morning or after work it taps and the oil light takes 1 to 2 secs to go out and other times with no probs its out almost instantly,i dont drive very far to work(not enough to get the car hot).lifters or oil pump probs???
anyone got any answers.
thanks

Morning
Have you got a genuine VAG oil filter on? I've heard they've got a valve inside that most aftermarket ones don't have and it helps to keep the oil in the top of the engine. Obviously only for a short period of time, not like weeks or anything....

no its not a genuine vag filter(cooper i think),i'm gonna flush the engine soon and try steam cleaning the inside of the head  through the air intake.then change oil/filter with vag parts to see if this helps.
thanks for the info

Holy cow batman!! You know I used some 10k boost once and was thinking about getting some for my new purchase - but I honestly do believe the stories, so I might give it a go myself! I was under the (dim) impression that you were actually gonna take the cam cover off and get the karcher pressure washer busy on it......!!!

Hi

Ive just read through the whole thread about sticking pints of water through a vacum hose and it sounds like a great idea to me, my car runs like a dog and has had various cutting out issues etc, but after doing 120k miles who can blame it.

Anyway, figured this cant do any harm so im up for trying it however im not only confident on choosing a vacum hose to act as a straw.

I would really appreciate it if someone would put a picture or some idiots instructions on here so that I definately pick the right one cause i dont fancy walking to work everyday after I blow the thing up.

Cheers
