Brake discs and pads
« on: 09 July 2014, 20:02 »
So just had my last free service and boy am I glad I don't have to frequent the stealers anymore! Looks like I'm gonna need a full set of discs and pads in the next few months. Does anyone know how much these might cost? The stealer quoted me £630!

I did my own front pads for £40. Discs would have cost me another £50. So call it £100 front and rear (to do on your own) So I would say at least half what you have been quoted at an independent.
Now - MK7.5 R in Pure White with DCC.
Gone - 2014 Mk7 GTI DSG Pure White - Discover Nav - Park Assist - Winter Pack.

For non-service items mate either go to Sterling Garage who are VW approved or get the price from the and Ridgeway will match it

£630 !!!!! are they gold plated? If they are the standard 312mm ones, they should be about £120, plus 1-2 hours labour.

Maybe a good time to upgrade to R32/S3 set up or the NQSBBK

What tools needed for the disc and pad change? Piston wind back tool? and some sort of special allen key?
Checked out discs on carparts4less, bit confusing as to the size! suppose it's just off with the wheel and measure the diameter?
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

If it's front brakes you don't need wind back tool just squeeze piston back using old pads and a screwdriver before stripping, think you also need a 7mm Allen key and a torx bit to remove the disc but I can't remember the size couple of scanners to I think 13 + 15mm. Bit of copper grease for the new pads and a good wire brush set to clean everything up.
