Do any Mk5 GTIs come with Cruise control
« on: 05 July 2014, 21:01 »
I'm looking at buying a Mk5 GTI.

Would like cruise control, but so far not seen any cars with this fitted.

Are any Mk 5s fitted with cruise control as standard??

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It was an optional extra

You can buy the kit for about £80 and fit it yourself but it will need coding to enable it

As above, however I've heard rumours that early mk5 GTI's also need a module in the steering column, whereas end of line mk5 GTI's have a "convenience wiring" setup where you just need the stalk and someone with VCDS to code it in for you.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm only going off things I've read on the internet*.

Will depend on what revision of the steering column control unit is installed already.

There is a good website that explains it completely, it's in German but what's that with google translate...

I'm let to believe mid-2006 onwards have the wire pre-fitted to the ECU - my Sept 2006 GT has so it was easy to retrofit cruise.
I believe that the steering controller is only required for the multi-function steering wheel. Or at least, I had to update my steering controller to fit a Mk6 R MFSW to my Mk5.

Read my link, it will tell you which column controllers will work with cruise, as there are some that don't. Does not necessarily have to do with multi function wheel or the multi function display in dash, though your chances of having a compatible one are larger if that's fitted already.

Retrofitted it to my Jan 2006 GTI. Stalk cost about £25 of eBay and I paid someone £40 to fit/ code it. Could probably DIY if you've got the right tools for steering wheel removal and access to VCDS
