Anyone had any experince with Chips Away?
« on: 04 July 2014, 17:15 »
Hi Chaps,

When I bought my GTI, It had a scuff down to the plastic on the front bumper (a common scrape), and a hairline scratch (down to the primer) on the offside rear quarter (near rear wheel arch).

I've had a Chips Away chappy round and he says he can fix them no probs. But I'm guessing the repair is only as good as the technician?

I would think he would be able to do the bumper without too much troule as there are a couple of areas to easily blend in. But the scratch on the rear quarter??...I just can't see how that can be sorted and blended in without it being noticiable? Surely only a proper body shop could blend that in?

Anyone any experience with them? Should I go ahead and have it done? "Smart Repairs" surley aren't always 100%?

Regards,

Mart :undecided:

Get it sorted with a proper bodyshop, much better in the long run.

Go for a proper body shop IMO. Shouldn't be more than a couple hundred quid max.

There's plenty of really good body shops which wont charge you more than £200 a panel, this isn't cheap by any means but their work is 100% perfect in my experience.

stay away from cheap body shops, had my mk5 painted at a cheap place and the paint chips really easy and it's a very dark brown in direct sunlight not black, very annoying.
