Hi guys n gals,
Am about to replace 1800 block in my '89 16v with a 2L Passat one- 150whp sounds too good to miss

Does anyone know whether fitting a Passat box is a good idea? Obviously the standard 16v short ratio box is the logical choice but as the 2l has a sh*t load more torque and much though i enjoy r a g g i n g the 180016v, am wondering if the different ratios would suit the car. I drive daily around rural Devon in my Git and reckon i have worn out at least 3 gearknobs...A396 Tiverton-Dulverton...what a road! Also 60mph in 2nd gear would be quite nice...
I am going to keep my std gearbox just in case. I think the Passat has a hydraulic clutch though which will need changing.
Am going to start the conversion soon (swapped the current engine in one weekend and rebuilt previous 8v so reasonably familiar with the standard Gti) and will try and document it on photos and post them all later. The plan:
KR head + cams (recent valve stem seals etc)
6a Block from 1992 Passat GL
New oil pump + windage tray
50mm inlet manifold/Kjet
Otherwise OEM- air filter & exhaust all totally standard and recent (probably not for long

) Will rolling road the car before changing these bits though as would like to see the difference simply bolting a KR head on 9a block makes over standard output.
Any advice appreciated- does anyone know the original ratios (mph/100rpm...max mph/3rd gear etc) for the Pissart?
Thanks y'all
joe
