wipers and washers not working

Hi guys I'm after help, I have a H reg mk2 golf gti 1.8 8v bbm, I have just replaced the speedo so the mfa works, as I went to put the dash back in and test the headlight switch there was a spark behind it and a slight bit of smoke, now the wipers front and back and the washers don't work, the fuses and relays are all working, the only thing that works on the stalk is the mfa button, any help?
Also the MFA on MPH and MPG stays on --.- yet I've replaced the vacuum and the vdo on the back also and no change, any help?

Sounds like you've disturbed a wire on the stalk. You'll have to remove the stalk and check it out, Pull the positive off the battery first

the mfa wasn't working before, so I changed the vdo sensor with the donor speedo and when i went to put it all back thats when there was abit of smoke from the bottom right of the dash near the headlight switch, then the wipers wouldn't work, replaced fuse, relay and I've come to have a look and even my heater isn't working either
