Jerking and Misfiring issue - Cylinder 1 out
« on: 26 June 2014, 13:48 »
Hi all...

Seeing that there isn't much information about this topic out there without the proper solution (I've searched all over Google)
So I thought to share my view and experience with it now as I'm going through it currently.

So I have a 2011 MK 6 Candy White GTI - only this Sunday just gone, i was experiencing my car loosing power as I accelerated and as I was at a red light my car would start to jerk and misfire.
Luckily I only had driven 1 mile from my house so I took my car back home instantly and called my VW Dealer the next day, Monday 23rd.

So anyway - my car was not drive-able as soon as I took back home it was dead.
So there was no way I can take my car to the dealer - Called up RAC for the recovery service and they found the fault to be a misfire and one of the plugs needed replacing as well as the coilpack.
So ok, had this replaced, took it for a spin round the corner and the problem was not fixed .... clearly something more serious.

so they sent it over to my VW garage, and they had the car since Monday night, so only started to do the investigating on Tuesday morning and and the following day also as they didn't know what the fault was.
They then called me up Wednesday afternoon to say they found the fault and its relating to the injector and that needed replacing - so to the great relief; I was greatful they found the issue and proceed to order the parts (which is waiting for delivery) and get my car back on the road.

Unfortunately the car is now out of warranty and as you all would probably worked out its not a very cheap job to complete.
The investigation work alone cost £228 and for the remaining work to be done will be £582 = giving me the total bill of £810.....

Currently not a happy chap with the price - although have managed to get this down to £710.. still alot of money..

Anyone got any views on what I should do next? - Guess it needs to be fixed, but have any of you had the injector replaced and if so for how much?

Would appreciate any feedback - Thanks!

Surely can't be long out of warranty, try talking to VW customer services. Also make sure they are checking all of the injectors while they have it apart. Good luck with it.

£228 to find out its a faulty injector seems a tad on the high side, unless they physically removed it to test it.. in which case the labour cost to replace should be halved.

have you considered fitting the new part yourself?

It'd imagine it's quite time consuming to fit due to inlet manifold having to be removed etc, so you'd save a few bob by doing it yourself if you feel competent enough.

alternatively, take it somewhere other than the main stealers.

Well my car is completely dead - so can't exactly take it anywhere so its stuck at the local dealer, and no way can I do it myself - don't have the right tools or a garage for the car to sit in...
Literally just missed out on the warranty as that expired on 1st June.
I will speak with the Customer care team though - and see what they can do for me there as its an excessive amount of money.

Thought to share my experience now though if anyone else has this issue.
Thanks for the responses guys!
