Oil change (10k miles)

Hello
service indicator has just went on to indicate i need an oil change.  When I bought the car I was meant to get 2 years free servicing but never received any written confirmation.  Now im assuming an oil change would be outside the scope of that but is it in the service schedule?

Does anybody have a rough idea of cost for the oil change.  I have the car on a PCP would it be ok to use an independent rather than a dealer?

I assume its just the service now reminder popping up? If so the 10k service is just an oil & filter change IIRC.

Service plan is associated to your Reg/VIN and you should have got a letter in the post (which I've never needed when booking service) - may still be on their system though.

Its just the little spanner along with oil change in 28days?

I'm in the same position as well. 12 days till i need an oil change. I was hoping to hold off and just get it done at the same time as the first year service which is due at the end of July. I'll probably book the car in at the beginning of July for both. Whether its an additional cost over and above the service I have no idea.

Oh, and my oil light is on and i've only done 7,500 miles approx

Chaps - the first service and an oil change are one and the same thing!

The service reminder light should not come on until the car is one year old or has covered 15,000Km (9,400 miles), whichever occcurs first. If it comes on before either of those then you can wait until either one does occur (its possible that the service computer was not 'zeroed' at the time you collected the car from new so in that situation it can come on earlier, thinking its one year old).

This sounds like the situation with your car Craig - just wait until its first birthday to get the service done (provided you don't go over 15k Km in the meantime of course!).

Ah thanks for that Mark. I remember with my TT that the oil change used to be separate from the service so just assumed it was the same with the Golf.

Its scary to think a few of us have nearly had our motors one year. Time flys when your having fun.

Mine is going in for it's first oil service this Friday.  Just hit 9k after 7 months it's truly a brilliant car, can't fault it

Just had mine serviced at 9,400 miles.

Now I have a very strange scenario.....

Imagine going into your nav system and viewing the service details.  A few months ago I had something like:

Oil Change 2,000 miles
Inspection 12,000 miles

All looks fine.

Now I have this:
Oil 9,400 miles
Inspection 10,200 miles

I first thought the technicans had misprogrammed the services intervals as it seems insane to carry out an oil change then about 500 miles later carry out an inspection.  So I phoned VW Bradford and the lass on the service desk agreed it sounded odd, so she spoke to the technican and it is correct - that is the service interval!!

Has anyone else encountered this?  It seems very odd to change the oil and 500-700 miles later carry out an inpsection.
