mk4 2litre 8v GTI
« on: 07 September 2005, 23:53 »
I have a 99 mk4 2litre 8v GTI and as it's been said before the preformance isn't exactly breath taking. Does anyone have or has had one of these and can recommend a few tweaks like remapping or air filters etc..That will give me a bit more power

Grr i hate that answer,  i bought my 2.0 as i couldnt afford to buy a 1.8t or insure it  but i like mine, few years back at my old job i had to drive a Audi A4 1.8T to the petrol garage and i gave it some stick, my god it was quick!! loved it but also thought good job i did buy the 2.0 because with my "heavy right foot" a 1.8T would prob end up smashed up and me dead!!!

Whatever power you have you always want more and you get used to it too quickly.

But if I had a bit more spare cash at the moment I would really like to get my turbo remapped.....mainly because I was blown away by a Renault Clio sport the other day :embarassed:

I have a 99 mk4 gti (2litre 8v) and now i think i bought the wrong car then. Just as i've got it sitting the way I want it. A few small changes and 19inch wheels. So I've got no preformance and crap mpg too. Put in £49 the other day and got 300miles. Thats not driving too quick. If I'm steady i can get the fuel computer to give an average of 30mpg, but thats being very steady. Filled her up again £49 and I'm sitting at half a tank with 102 miles done

They do seem to be quite thirsty. I thought the fuel computer on my girlfriends car was on the blink, as no matter how light you are on the throttle I cant get it to go above 30.1MPG.

I managed to get 40.5MPG out of my Turbo this week (most of the garages round my way ran out of unleaded)

mine does seem to be quite thursty sometimes, like i'll cruise down the motorway for say 100miles and it'll drink loads, then on the return journey it'll hardly drink any.. my cars wierd like that lol  :undecided:

To be honest I'll have to do something. I've seen a few turbo engines for sale for around £700. But then it's getting someone to do the work. Do yous know anyone who specialises in that sort of thing. Another option was to just buy something quick Rx7, mr2 turbo, skyline and just buy small run around for during the week.
