09 plate Mk6 GTI just broke. Any ideas?

Hi.

I appear to have broke my car. Driving home, under pretty hard acceleration, but nothing major, there was a bit of a 'pop', the engine lost power, the EPC light came on and engine management light flashed on and off. I stop, tried to start it up again, and it started after only a bit of hesitancy but sounded and ran like it was only running on 3 cylinders. I limped it home, just round the corner, and by the time I got back the car stank of petrol and it was a bit smokey.

Any ideas before I stretcher it off to VW tomorrow?

Check your coil packs aren't loose, just take the engine cover off and push down on them,  see if any click back into place

Also wouldn't take it to vw unless you like being raped.  See if there's any independent vag garages near you, well I would anyway but up to you

Car needs scanning to get a definitive answer, independent garage will charge far less than vw to do that
