i just overtook a mitsu FTO, 8valves have better pull in lower revs (or so it seems to me) , or maybe thats because my 8v has had 8 full tanks of BP ultimate. (the stuff really works... honest)
you should have seen the guys face...

agree that the 8V is slow.

I don't think I can hit 60 in under 10s. I think manufacturers official figures are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

besides, there are too many speed cameras where I live and if I have anything faster, I'll end up losing my license.

I'm going to stick up for the 8v's here.  I can say that mine is rapid.  All its got is an induction kit and a full stainless system. I used to have a 309 GTI and my 8v Golf is definately faster even though the 309 GTI has 130ish Bhp.

Its all about power to weight ratio.

If you're a fat b@stard its not going to accelerate quick.

"agree that the 8V is slow"

8v's are slower 0-60 because the gearboxes won't let them get to 60 in 2nd.

My old Valve would do the following thru the gears:

1 - 35
2 - 70
3 - 95
4 - 110
5 -  130 (mph)

Intresting to know how comparative 8v's performed - anybody?

I'll just nip out and give it a run round the works car park to see if I can come up with some figures
