Hello Peeps
« on: 07 September 2005, 22:45 »
Hiya,

As my name suggests Rovers were my first love, but my mate was always into his VAG cars, and I decided to buy a tidy MK2 golf driver 3 door, which the previous owner has dressed perfectly as a GTI 8v including interior. The car is great fun to drive but is gutless compared to my Rover 216 16v Twin Cam (which is temporarly dead) but this will all be fixed. Once i can use my rover as a daily commuter the golf will be taken off for some serious work, (just started bidding for a VR6 engine on e bay )

So Looking forward to chatting to all you like minded ppl

Warren from Belfast.

Cool,

Welcome Roverspeed.

My 1st love was for Rover too but mine was v8.  I sum this whole golf thing up as:

A Golf is like having a dog in the family.  They're not perfect but for some unexplicable reason every home should have one.  The odd thing is you promise yourself you can live without one but truth is once you've had one you can't stop wanting another.

Angel eye inners are going to be a bodge job if you want them, but crystal clear inners are easy to find, if a bit pricey.

Oh and FK coilovers are top notch mate, can't fault them.

yeah i am gonna make my own outer angel eyes i am pretty handy this way, prefer things like that done myself, yah know what i mean, means I can choose the exact colour etc.

Would you recommend waiting to get my coilovers until after the engine transplant? its hopefully gonna be the VR6, but at least a 16valver prob 2 litre rather than 1800.

In all fairness mate, i wouldn't bother with a VR unless you are going to be doing some serious tuning to it, and sorting the gearbox out. The problem is that VR gear ratios are far too long for the engine, which as nice as it sounds doesn't really do it much favours when driving.

I've got a 2.0 16v and its just shy of 190 horses and wee's all over standard VR's going to put a 8v box, performance clutch and lightened fly in over the weekend, and see what happens. Should whoop through the gears but lose a bit of top end. Nothing much though as you hardly use it anyhow.

Coilovers i would say is up to you, they will be adjustable so you can change them to suit your mood.
