Clutch slip 5th gear?
« on: 19 June 2014, 20:15 »
I took my car out for a drive today, and i experienced what felt like clutch slip in 5th gear (only 5th gear so far) It slips between 3000 and 4000 rpm, and only when i plant my foot on the floor at around 2800-3000 revs. It doesn't do this with any other gears, and it doesn't always slip for some reason.

It happened a few times, so my question is - how can i check that it is definitely clutch slip?
are there any other possibilities it might be?
how long will the clutch last when it starts slipping?
Also - I remember seeing a thread on a clutch upgrade, but i can't remember what the thread name was, can someone refresh my memory  - Scrap that i remembered the name

Thanks, Mo

Hi ya,

Booting it at around 3k will give you close to peak torque and going from a closed throttle to WOT, the torque will build rapidly.

Being in 5th will give the greatest resistance to that torque.

So if your clutch is going to start slipping, that's when it'll probably start doing it.

Join the club, I don't want to add up what I've spent on mine!

They are nice cars though. :)

Nice for about 5 minutes  :undecided:

My car was fully fixed for about a week then this happens, it's just endless!

Me and a mate call it the 'German car tax'.

Though it applies to pretty much any older car a petrolhead would want to own.

You can have a nice fast car but it'll always want for something, and usually something expensive.

Yup, the nice man at the garage just relieved me of £400 for belts, tensioner, pulleys and a water pump! :)

Just change it all yourself Mo, get the G60 and Sachs kit if you don't have it already, dual mass sucks!
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

Not looking forward to the bill for the cambelt then!

haha, yeah i was going to, i'm going to try and do all the repairs myself rather than take it into the garage, the only problem is that i need to borrow the tools for it, which i should be able to do

what you think of this kit? and it should just be a straight fit to a an AGU shouldn't it?

Cheers
