Hi Guys and girls,
Been a while since chatting here. I just sold my mk 6 gti after a blown engine, malfunctioning sat nav and a blown xenon light. Despite all these problem, I really enjoy the car and the service I got from Liverpool VW. However, the Golf R got such a good review from numerous mags both uk and abroad which I think this year is the right time to change my daily car. Test drove a red 3 door S3 and a blue 5 door golf r which the latter is more practical and the steering is a touch sharper. It doesn't take long for me to make my mind up that golf r is the one I will go for. There were lots of blue and white one around but I want a black one with 3 door. So I manage to locate one in Oldham and went in one month ago to have a look. The specs was minimal but the R is already well-equipped standard. The trade-in price on offer was decent so I went for it. So far I really enjoy the car. The ride is not bad without the adaptive suspension. The gearchange is snappy and the steering is fast and responsive. It also got good pedal feel. Much better than the S3. One problem really bug me is the driver side wiper. It keep judders and making an aweful lots of noise. It doesn't clean the screen properly with lots of smearing. Worst still it is quite noisy. Since the car is less than a month old, I went back to the dealer and ask for a replacement. I was so shock to find out that the wiper is a wear and tear problem and I have to pay 30 odd pounds to get a replacement. Worst still, the service manager insist the wiper works perfectly. I was really unhappy as I drove all the way from Liverpool to Oldham and was told that there is nothing wrong with it Why will I do that? I remember one of my other car (sunday one) wipers fail 6/12 after I purchase the car and the dealer still replace it with no charge. I think for someone selling a £30000 plus car, this is not the service I expect! I also waited 2 hours for them just to check the wipers. Not a very good experience!

I find the wipers on my new gti poor also, cars been detailed and they seem much better so may be they need a good clean along with the windscreen.

also thinka few people have changed brands and found them much better than the valeos which i think are fitted.

Had exactly the same problem on collection day with my R, although my dealership were much more simpathetic even after trying two other wipers the skipping had gone but still had the common smearing on the drivers side, i ordered some of these after much discussion on other forums and they are perfect!

Thanks guys for your quick response. I don't mind trying an alternative brand. Knowing vw being so tight with their warranty claim. If I put non-vw item on my car, will it invalidate my warranty?

I still find it hard to believe how much better to drive the mk 7 r compare with my old friend mk 6 gti!

They won't be able to invalidate your warranty with fitting different wiper blades mate.

Sounds like you've received some poor customer service, I wouldn't bother with that dealership again.

Wipers are common problem, I too replaced mine with Bosch aerotwins after giving screen a really good clean with Dodo Juice Clearly Menthol Glass Cleaner and started using Einszett 'Kristall Klar' Washer Fluid. Problem completely solved

I purchased my GTI from Oldham - who did you deal with to buy?

I have the details for the area manager for Oldham, he's been fantastic in the past.

Many thanks for all the advice I got here. Went on-line earlier on and bought a set of bosch.

I can't fault the buying process. It is always when something went wrong and when one trying to get some solution which sort out a good business vs those who just sell you the product then leave you to it.

I garage all my cars. I even take a day off work to clay + wax my new car with zymol glasur once I got home with my golf. It is obvious that I am not one of those who neglect my cars. Even if I do, wipers shouldn't fail less than one month after leaving the showroom. Both the service guy and warranty manager insist there is nothing wrong with my wipers which really drives me mad  Both of them need a eye test and audiogram. Imagine a more expensive problem such as a corroded alloy or faulty paintwork, they will use other excuse to wiggle their way out!

In liverpool, when my 4 year old gti xenon fail outside the warranty period. They were very sympathetic as the extended warranty do not cover that. They gave me a courtesy car and a good discount to fit a new unit. Can't see this sort of service with this dealer after this experience!
