Any KR experts??
« on: 14 June 2014, 14:36 »
I am rebuilding 89 1.8 16V kr mk 2. I have rebuild the engine from ground up. New rings rebore reworked head etc etc. the problem is I went for its first fire up this week which it did after sorting the fuel pump. My problem now is it runs terrible and don't know what's wrong. It starts but struggles. Then it won't idle if you try revving it you get a high pitch squeel from somewhere. And it sort of revs then dies. It has new leads plugs and cap and rotor. Reworked everything. The fuel injectors are original and metering head original.

Not an expert but have you checked and double checked all the timing marks are correct?.. also when you did the rebuild did you use a Haynes manual to torque everything up correctly?

Hi yes. Timing is perfect and I torqued everything. Think I have found the cause today. Seems to be air leak at the throttle body. Can't get gaskets so made some from gasket paper and doesn't seem good enough. Thanks for reply.
