Vag-com help
« on: 09 June 2014, 17:13 »
Evening all !

Can someone point me in the right direction for the cable i need to make changes to my car ?

Looking on Rosstechs website they are mighty expensive and im not sure which version is needed !
Also, is there any cheaper alternatives to rosstech to make changes to the car ?

If anyone is in the dorset area with the equipment and wouldn't mind doing a few changes for me, i would supply with beer tokens and my appreciation :)

I did have a cable off Amazon. It did work version 12.12 JayGTD is the proud owner. I'll pm him and see if he had success with it.

May have to take a look on Amazon then ! I only want to do dial staging and change the display to show MPH in large instead of KMH. :)

The large MPH and staging was all I required. I contacted a local VW AUDI specialist who said bring it along and they would have a look. They were able to get the large MPH, but no staging available. It took a matter of minutes and was completed at no charge.

sorry to hijack, but I was also wanting to change only basic things like the kph display to mph, would something like this cable with software combo actually be worth buying, it has mixed reviews:

 http://www.amazon.co.uk/VCDS-12-12-0-VAGCOM-VAG-COM/dp/B00IT66BAK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1402398271&sr=8-4&keywords=vag+com+cable

any words of wisdom welcome as I've never tried the VAG-com side of things

thanks

Think that was the cable i purchased. Worked some of the time. I think it was me plugging it into the OBD socket. The software did install. When connected to the net it actually upgraded to the latest software. You do get a dialogue box up to say that the cable checks out ok. The one i had didn't but worked sometimes.

Check through some of the other VW forums you might find someone local that has the software and could borrow it, that how I did mine only cost me some alcohol to do it and the big MPH and dial staging are easy to do.
