engine mounts
« on: 04 June 2014, 19:40 »
My engine mounts are gone and I was wondering how long can I drive it until the engine falls out.
this is the kit I was looking at.

also I ruined the threads on 1 of bolts the bolts the dogbone to the gearbox, what would be the easiest way to fix it.

How gone are they? You could potentially do a huge amount of damage if the mount completely fails while you're driving.

As for the thread on the bolt being knackered...replace the bolt

I need to replace all the bolts because I only put the engine back in 500 miles ago.
not sure how far gone they are or which 1 is gone. There is alot of vibrating when taking off and a loud bang changing down gears. The threads are gone in the gearbox not the bolt so replacing the bolt is no good.

Dog bones are cheap, replace it while you save up for the others.

Run these on my VRS, good bit of kit, don't think they do them anymore though.
Vibratechnics are about the best, or you could try black forest industries, a lot depends how stiff you want your new mounts

I use VF Engineering mounts, they hold the engine well but transmit a great deal of vibration if that's something which may concern you then VF Engineering mounts might not be the ideal choice. They are well designed, elegant and simple in appearance.

I dont mind the vibration I just want the engine held solid.
