whom has STANDARD led rear number plate lights?
« on: 02 June 2014, 19:17 »
Hi all.
Basically my GTI has the housing from factory for the leds with led bulbs... they have never been swapped for aftermarket leds from a halogen bulb..Today I was thinking about changing to a brighter led or a sharper white/blue..thinking straight swap..

Carnt for the life of me get into the actual bulb.. Can get the socket disconnected from the bumber straight forward.. but when its dangling carnt unscrew it like other examples I have seen on the net or pull away... anyone had this problem?

I've got the standard factory led number plate lights.  I haven't tried to change bulbs, I think standard ones are bright enough.  Avoid blue as they are illegal and look  imo

yerh I agree booth, I have a box of LEDs off my old motor so just wanted to try my ones I had see if they were brighter really after being parked next to my mates cooper S which looked brighter LEDS.

Was rear number plate LEDS standard from factory or a optional extra or only on the models with the upgraded rear main lights?

Iirc, they became standard on later mk6's, as did the upgraded led rear lights.

Don't park next to your mates mini, then it won't bother you

The light output of the oem led number plate lights on the later MK6's is perfect, not chavvy but a modern look

I'm after a set

They don't screw off. They have a clip on the side that you need to push in then the cable and LED unit will pull apart.

The LED unit is a sealed unit though and as others have said, OEM is just right. Any brighter and they look "cheap after market"

I see, I was basically bored and just wanted to test them against the sets i already had. I don't think there as bright as the BMW sets and some Audi IMO.
