Okay, another problem has arisen with my car... Earlier u was driving down the road, when all of a sudden I heard a clonk in the rear right hand corner. Now ever since then I am now experiencing a lot of vibration when braking and every now and then It will make another knocking noise until it's settled.

My bet is that it's the brake caliper that has come lose or a brake pad that has dropped out of place. But i can't be for sure. I have checked the wheel nuts and they are all tight, and now I'm stuck in my car, in a m6 service station because it's pouring it down.

Cheers, Mo

Found the problem - the whole caliper and carrier is hanging off... Just my luck... Any temp fixes anyone can think of?

- both carrier bolts are missing

Why would you want to 'temp fix' a brake?

Go to vw or if you cant afford a few quid for some bolts, go to the scrappy.

Like I said, I'm stuck in a service station on the m6... I have no other choice than to temp. Fix it or get recovered, and I don't have any breakdown cover...

How on earth have they come out??!

The only fix is to replace the bolts, don't drive it until then.

No bloody idea how they came out... I have been driving it around for well over a month, since the back brakes were changed, so it isn't an immediate thing that caused the to work their way out

You still got the bolts at all if so I would put them in n try tighten them up best you can but we'll risky trying to temp fix brakes unless you can take the whole calliper off and drive with 3 callipers but be extra carful

Bolts have dropped out somewhere, so I no longer have them, something I thought of doing, is to take the pads out then cable tie the carrier / caliper back on. But then I'll be using 3 brakes only and 3 brakes when it's raining is a recipe for disaster.

Pay to get recovered or failing that call someone to come and pick you up to get done bolts to fix it at the service station.

A temp fix is a disaster waiting to happen.

That's a recipe for ending up in a ditch, the rear brakes don't do a huge amount but if you've only got one side working and have to slam on the car will be all over the place.

I really can't believe you're contemplating it
