Hi all,

Got myself a Silver, MK4, AUM 1.8t on a 53 plate 109k. Had 3 Saxo's of varying power and figured now its time to grow up

I've been reading about the AUM on this forum for little while so when I got the car, I did the following.

Cambelt
Plugs (platinum ones )
Oil
Filter
Rear pads and discs

It wasn't quite right....

Had a slight issue with the management light- diagnosed as 'PO172 system to rich (bank 1)'. The car was awful on start-up, over revving and would barely pull away until that blasted secondary air pump stopped doing whatever it does. It sounded like it was going to take off and after closer inspection I noticed the hard plastic pipe at the front of the engine, coming from the secondary air pump, had snapped and had a gaping hole in it.

Noticed that the Y shaped breather had split, and the brake servo boost pipe had a split in it. (German quality?!) Anyway, found a chap breaking an A3 1.8t who sold me and got the hard plastic pipe, and the Y shaped pipe and the brake servo pipe. Fitted them, clear the fault codes by resetting the battery and bingo. Car was good for a day or two before going back to being crap on start-up and when the car settled down it was idling all over the place. Took the throttle body off (as per you guys) and it was full of crap. Cleaned, refitted, and its made a huge difference

Todays task is to clean the EGR valve. I've heard this does make a difference and I've got the carb cleaner from the throttle body so why not!

R-tech remap is on the cards....will it make a huge difference?
