MK7 Auto Locking Feature
« on: 31 May 2014, 13:34 »
Hi all, I've had my MK7 GTD for 4-weeks now and have covered 600 very enjoyable miles.

When I first got the car I set up the Auto Locking feature via the Set up > Opening & Closing menu. It worked fine until recently but now it is not locking when I drive off. The only way is to manually lock it via the button on the drivers door.

I've tried a few things including turning the option off then back on (turning the ignition off/on between), and have tried with the second key, but to no avail, it just refuses to lock itself.

I was wondering if anyone had experienced this, or could offer any advice beyond taking it back to the dealer?

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do a factory reset on the Composition Media system?

OK, tried the Factory Reset but no joy. Looks like it's back to the dealer. Irritating.

Have you switched to the other key by any chance as some of the settings are based on which key is in use when set?

Hi, thanks, I've tried both keys and neither works. Both had the Automatic Locking option selected.

Usually this would affect the whole of the central locking and wouldn't work period; but is the boot, or one of the doors open slightly? It's shut, but not fully? This was a common problem for new Honda drivers who couldn't lock their car thinking the central locking was f**ked.

And I'm sure you've tried'; but try turning the setting back to normal, then back to auto lock.

Another thing to try, make sure your left mirror is set to go down when reversing. When you first start the car, put it in reverse, let the left mirror go down. Once you drive off, the mirror should revert at the exact time the central locking should activate. By doing this, you can see if it's just the central locking, or maybe an issue with a sensor going over the required speed to make these bits happen. Just a thought at least.
Recently sold my GTD.

Hi Phil, thanks for your reply.

I have indeed tried turning the option off then back on, and the mirrors are permanently set to L and function as they should. I will however try the process you described.

I read a very old thread related to the MK5 where the auto locking feature wasn't detecting that the door had been closed, but have searched extensively and not found any evidence of anyone experiencing this with a MK7.

Hi Andrew

I am having this exact same problem on my MK7 golf.

As this post is quite old I assume you might have got it resolved. Was it something that the dealer had to sort or could it be done by anyone?

Appreciate if you able to let me know as it's so annoying that it suddenly stopped working and I dont know why! Not getting any errors on the dash or via the discovery system. I also have tried a reset of the locking system but to no avail.

Many Thanks
